Jellyfish

Is this a jellyfish?

The Australian Spotted Jellyfish or White-spotted jellyfish (Phyllorhiza punctata) is a jellyfish which is commonly found in the South-western Pacific. This particular jellyfish feeds on different types of snail species. These jellyfish generally have a body diameter of between 45 and 50cm although some have been reported as being bigger with the largest reported size being a whopping 72cm in diameter. These jellyfish posses a mild venom and are not really any threat to humans. There is a concern when it comes to these jellyfish as they have the ability to consume not just plankton but also the eggs and larvae of some important fish species everyday whilst it filters up to 13,200 gallons of seawater. The bell of the jellyfish is covered in white spots which is how the jellyfish species got its name.
